Holiday French Toast

December 8, 2016/in Food Ideas/by Kids Eat Smart Foundation Admin

Next week, many of our KES Clubs will be winding down for the Christmas Holidays. That means many KES volunteers will be making festive treats that students enjoy every year.  We always love to share our festive ideas with our KES Club volunteers.  French toast is a special treat that everyone who attends a Breakfast Club enjoys.  For most KES Clubs, it’s not a weekly menu item so it’s always a special treat to see and smell when entering the Club in the morning.  Next week, as part of your holiday festivities, try serving up this delicious holiday French toast.

Ingredients

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon (optional, and please ensure there are no allergies)
  • Cooking Spray
  • 8 slices whole wheat bread

Directions

In a dish, beat the egg whites, egg, milk, salt, vanilla and cinnamon until blended. Spray skillet with cooking spray and heat on medium heat.  Dip the bread slices, one at a time, in the egg mixture, pressing the bread lightly to coat both sides well.  Place in the skillet, and cook until lightly browned. Flip and cook until lightly browned on the other side. Top with yogurt and some festive colours – try adding fruits like strawberries and kiwi! Serve up and enjoy!
