That every school aged child in Newfoundland and Labrador attends school well nourished to be ready to learn.

Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador partners with schools, communities, volunteers and sponsors to set up and support nutritious food programs called Kids Eat Smart Clubs, organized by volunteers for school aged children throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador helps set up and support child nutrition programs because we believe that children have a right to adequate nutritious food and we recognize that good food is fundamental for good health and the ability to concentrate and learn.

We value the integrity of our name, Kids Eat Smart, and chose it to emphasize the important link between good nutrition and the ability to concentrate and learn.

The Kids Eat Smart Foundation is committed to ensuring that the Foundation is recognized for setting up and supporting food program that emphasize nutrition first. Since our programs are delivered by volunteers, our strategic priorities are focused on investing in and supporting volunteers so that together we can ensure quality child nutrition programs through meeting Best Practice standards. These standards are developed nationally, and have been adapted by Kids Eat Smart to deal with the challenges and barriers within our provincial context. They form the basis of our guidelines for Kids Eat Smart Clubs and the way we work together with programs to achieve our goals.

Quality sustainable programs
We value quality over quantity and we will not risk compromising nutritional standards by reducing the level of support to existing programs, in order to start new programs.

Nutrition First
Kids Eat Smart Clubs must follow Canada’s Food guide when selecting appropriate food to offer in their Clubs. Kids Eat Smart supports and promotes the Best Practices national standards and guidelines for food quality.

Volunteer run
Kids Eat Smart programs are delivered by volunteers and the Kids Eat Smart Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Volunteer delivered programs represent a fundamental value which we will not compromise. Volunteers are the heart of our child nutrition programs, we value and appreciate their contribution and are committed to recognizing this in a tangible way.  We are also committed to recognizing the important contribution of the volunteer Board of Director and its various Committees and working groups.

Community development approach
Our philosophy is grounded in partnerships; community ownership and the leveraging of resources were possible. To set up and support Kids Eat Smart programs, we use a community development approach that recognizes that communities are unique and one size does not fit all. Decision making always remains within the community. For programs to be successful, family, school and the community must be mobilized and engaged.

Accountability
We recognize that we are accountable to all our stakeholders for the wise stewardship of all donated funds and the reporting of how these funds have helped us accomplish our vision and mission. We are committed to the equitable distribution of funds throughout the province and this distribution is based upon developed criteria. As a condition of our funding, we also expect accountability for the funds we disburse to Kids Eat Smart Clubs throughout the province.

Partnerships
Our success and ability to deliver on our Mission is dependent on the strength of our partnerships at all levels. We recognize and value our relationship with the Government, our corporate partners and our many donors. We will endeavor to make sure that our partnerships are mutually beneficial.

Kids Eat Smart believes
